Here's a simple deck made out of redwood

I built the basic     structure using     conventional     construction     techniques.......

......but attached the hand rails to the posts using mortice and tennon and half-lap joints.

The steps are built out of  IPE.  A Brazilian Redwood that is extremely durable and weather resistant...
